I wonder if the modern interpretation of the Mayan calendar, in that the world was to end on December 27th, 2001 was incorrect. That our calculations hadn’t accounted for something and 2016 is the year the 5th world ends. This would explain the escalating tragedy as icons and celebrities fall, and as death piles onto death.
Or perhaps the 5th world had died and we are in the tumultuous birthing of the 6th and what we are seeing now is the visible manifestation of those changes just now hitting the public consciousness with the deaths of iconic or, at the least, famous people.

It’s been a hard year for icons. Bowie broke me completely. Prince took a piece of my youth with him into the rain. Ali reminded us of what it means to serve. š¢
Too much tragedy. Everywhere, everyday… I’ve concluded we’re a failed species. It makes me want to withdraw from the world and go inside, coccooned by those who still shine, ignoring the rest. I know this isn’t the answer, but as an empath, it’s sometimes all I can do.
I’m ready for #7.

Keep your heart strong. We haven’t failed yet. The crossroads are ahead, each step, each choosing can turn the tide. It’s not too late for us.

I want to believe that. I want to believe that this chaos is the manifestation of violent death throes, and a painful birth of something better. Culture is so divergent now, polarized. In my corner of the world, the youth give me hope, but the old ways die hard. I guess they always do.

Yes, change is only ever incremental when one considers the full spectrum. We move forward by generation not by year. But it is getting better. There is hope. Never lose yours even when that hope seems tarnished. It allows us to see the opportunity for the next step we will take.
